A Celebration on Lake Almanor:
While man made fireworks are something you can count on for this holiday, nature is fickler. For that reason, a show in the sky like this is a bonus. The West Shore of Lake Almanor is typically quiet and less crowded than other California lakes. The weekend of the 4th, however, typically transforms even this area into a congested, loud party.
This year there were fewer boats and people in general. When clouds were still in the sky and color started to show up as the day came to an end, the scene had potential. I really enjoy getting a subject just right in wide shots like this. It can offer some perspective and tell a story. In this case I was looking for the moment to stand on its own.
As sunset starts in an amazing location, I find myself hopeful and excited to see how it will evolve. This one didn’t disappoint. There is such an amazing range of color. Yellows through orange to red and pink with a touch of blue at the top create the wow factor. Balancing that are the varying greys to black in all the layers of Lassen and the mountains surrounding it. I am hesitant to use the word perfect, but there is nothing I would change about this moment and image!
