Afternoon Lake Clouds
Lake Almanor, California with Lassen National Park in the Background
When the Clouds Steal the Show:
This is one of my favorite views of Mt. Lassen from Lake Almanor. There are parts of the lake that get busy with boats, but this area can be relatively empty in comparison. We had been getting consistent weather in the afternoons, so I started thinking about how I could use it. On this day we also had a relatively calm and wind free lake. I love how the clouds are creating shadows on the distant mountains while leaving Lassen relatively clear. I was able to get up high enough to keep the paddle boarder in the lake. The placement of that person is crucial! It creates scale, which then shows how small we are in relation to this expansive location.
Anyone who enjoys a solo, peaceful day on the lake can appreciate the rareness of what you are seeing. There are situations where I become hyper focused on capturing the pictures I need to ultimately create a final image I have in my mind. In this case I was present and content. When I was putting this together it felt like a special time that I was lucky to be a part of. When the sky is putting on a show like this, I enjoy zipping into a life vest, jumping in the water and just taking it in. That’s exactly what I did after I put the camera away!
