Initially captivated by landscape photography, my pivot towards portrait photography was ignited during a family trip to Angel Island. Little did I know, that capturing my Grandpa Charlie in front of his childhood home’s foundation, would shape the future of my artistic vision. Soon after in 2002, infant portraits of Mason, our firstborn, became the defining style that I would build a business on. Vibrant natural colors, flash photography to capture the twinkle of an eye, and an innate ability to capture the personalities of my clients.
Venturing into Professional Photography: Mark Thau Photography
As 2005 approached, our business plans were set, and Mark Thau Photography was born. Initially, our focus was weddings, portraits and commercial work. However, serendipity played its part when Mason’s preschool (Laura’s Preschool and Daycare, still our account today!) and then Little League (Chico Westside, still our account today!) needed a photographer, thus launching our events based portrait photography business.

As the years passed, my lens didn’t just capture portraits, but also explores vast landscapes throughout the west on family trips to Olympic National Park, the Grand Canyon, Yosemite and Lake Almanor. My portfolio of landscape fine art grew steadily alongside the demands of the portrait business.
