Hidden Beauty at Bridalveil Creek: A Yosemite Winter Discovery

I rarely stop at Bridalveil Falls.  The parking lot is small.  It’s one of the first things to do as you enter Yosemite Valley. People are eager to get out of the car and see something.  The hike is really short making it accessible to nearly everyone.  In a nutshell, it’s busy.  On this day, we arrived at the park early on a clear winter morning.  My wife noticed a half empty parking lot and suggested we stop.

On the way up to the falls I saw this perfect little scene.  Back to the car I went for my camera and tripod.  This feels like a great representation of a High Sierra stream.  Snow melt carving through granite.  Nature’s superpower:  Elevation, water and time.  Nothing has shaped our planet more.  (Ok, I’ll give you plate tectonics)

My default is seeking out big vistas.  It’s been fun focusing on scenes like this.  I love the simple, peaceful beauty of this moment.  Looking back, I can’t remember if I even made it to the observation point for Bridalveil Falls.
