Bryce Canyon in the Afternoon
from $150.00

It was mid-week in early May. I thought the park would be pretty slow, but parking lots were filling up and lots of hikers were out enjoying the trails. This spot is away from the other attractions, so expected we would find some solitude here. Shortly into our hike we came across this location. On the approach I found myself getting more excited with each step! I explored different angles from both sides of the bank, but this one from the bridge was the clear winner.

The Hoodoos of Bryce are nothing short of incredible. Having said that, there are challenges…. It can feel like a lot of orange, perspective can be challenging, and the shock value of being immersed in this landscape is often lost. This location overcomes many of those issues. The green trees give us their color but also scale. Blue sky offers another color, but the delicate clouds complement the fragile nature of this stone. Just as the clouds quickly blow away the river is literally carrying the mountains away as well!

I love how we are below the Hoodoos and just the right distance from them. They are the star of this image, but they are made better because of all the other components. The stone is beautiful, clouds bring snow and rain, water gives life and the trees and plants support animals. While hiking, I am subconsciously always looking for scenes that encapsulate an area. This is one of those!
