Horseshoe Lake Sunrise
Upper Bidwell Park, Chico, CA
Sometimes you pass by an area so many times that you no longer actually see it. This is a view of the lake readily accessible to most people. It just happens to be at a really unique moment. I myself walked this trail many times in the summer when it is really hot, and I am just thinking about getting back to my truck. In spring it is easier to pause for a moment and see what possibilities it might hold. That happened to me this year.
When I see this image, I feel the cool morning. Perfect for an early walk or run. The hills tell the story of where we are in the seasons. Patches of green grass on the hillsides are giving way to the familiar California Gold. This mixture of colors makes the landscape more interesting for pictures. The moment of sunrise with color in the sky is a reward for getting up early. It is a gift that is often not given, which makes its appearance even more special!
