Death Valley National Park is a long way from almost everywhere. Well, this spot is hours of additional driving once in the park. In my opinion, it is worth going. When I’m in nature, I like to be by myself as much as possible. National Parks can get busy, however, even the big-name parks can be experienced like this. One might have to go in the off season, or with potential bad weather. This can make for great pictures. Most people you meet on days like this are typically friendly, down to earth, with a positive attitude, just respectfully enjoying the place for what it is.
This day started before the sun came up. I often talk about what a dice roll it can be to plan for early morning shots. In this case we weren't going for sunrise, but the distance to cover meant when we rolled in there might be a boring sky with no clouds. Still an epic place to hike and take in, but it would mean no truly awesome pictures. Shortly after arriving, these wispy clouds started moving in and blowing around. They really are the final piece in the puzzle.
For those of you that look at this and think, “Wow, that’s really solitary!” I can assure you one feels even more isolated when standing on top of a dune, looking out in every direction as far as can be seen and there is essentially no one. I could do a paragraph of adjectives to describe how amazing that moment is!
