Mid Mountain in Zion Canyon
Zion National Park, Utah
Elevated Vistas: The Majestic Canvas of Zion Canyon Unveiled from Mid-Mountain Heights
There is something unique about a mid-mountain view. Standing beneath mountains makes them appear huge. From the top there can be sweeping vistas, but the bottom detail is potentially lost. The middle makes you feel like you are part of the landscape. Trees and brush growing on the side of the mountain usually obstruct part of the view and limit your options. In this shot, you will see some of that on the edges. With most of the landscape visible I feel it complements the shot by adding to that feeling of being immersed in the park.
The Virgin River was running high and full of silt. It is the center of the shot because it created the dramatic canyon. Early Spring has deciduous vegetation filling in green everywhere. These clouds had been with us for nearly the entire trip and at no point did they get old! The different light on the rock and all the geological layers reveal something new every time you look at it. All the elements and colors are perfectly balanced.
I stood in this spot for a long time and didn’t want to leave. The moment was special …. basically perfect! I have been to Zion before and will go again, but was aware that I may never see this spot this amazing again. It’s hard to comprehend that such a unique and utterly spectacular location exists today. It felt like a dinosaur could walk into view and no one would be surprised.
I am excited to offer this print. I took a lot of pictures while here with my Canon, but this image was captured via I Phone. It has been cleaned up and run through my usual postproduction processing. With my profession constantly changing, I have been looking for opportunities to use this tool at the highest professional level. This was finally that moment!
