Monkey Face in Spring Glory
Upper Bidwell Park, Chico, CA
Chico Spring Time
I love capturing well known spots at the height of their beauty. If you’ve been to Bidwell Park this image probably looks familiar. For many of us, this view represents the beginning of a hike, run, or bike. The park can be enjoyed year-round, but it is extra special in Spring. It’s a wonderful convergence of so many factors. Pleasant temperatures, lush grass, freshly leafed out trees, and often clouds.
On this day the clouds broke me away from daily activities and drew me to the park. Being the middle of Spring, all the conditions were right. I was standing on top of a large wooden fence post in the parking lot for this image. I remember feeling certain about my composition. The lighting and clouds were also perfect. Capturing a dynamic image usually requires getting in position and waiting. Not on this day! After taking a few extra shots to make sure I got it, it was time for a hike.
The entire walk in the park felt like this image. Often a special moment or event is just that. Something to enjoy, but hard to capture in a single image. In this case I feel like the mood of the day shines through in all its glory!
