Monkey Face with Flowers
Upper Bidwell Park, Chico, CA
Photographing the Yellow Bloom of Spring:
I got up really early, was the first person into the park, and hiked in the dark to a spot I was excited about. While being out for sunrise always feels good, there was no color. On my way back I was shocked to see these flowers in the perfect spot. The light was right, green grass, trees just leafed out, and I feel I have made my position on clouds really clear by now. They just make things more interesting.
While all those things were important support pieces, the flowers are clearly what makes this shot. I covered a few angles but kept coming back to this one. Sometimes it feels like I’m a broken record, but this shot just shows it again. It’s great to go out with a plan, but it’s even more important to be open to what nature is giving you!
