Peaceful Day at the Lake
Lake Almanor, CA
Lake Almanor Still Morning Captured
The morning of this image started slowly. The previous day we had driven well into the night. With no specific plans it felt good to sleep in and take it easy. After breakfast and a walk, I found myself in a shaded chair. With little or no wind, the lake was surprisingly calm. It took me a while to realize how few boats were going by or even in view. Add in the random scattering of clouds and it felt exceptionally peaceful.
For several years, this sailboat was often buoyed here. Our brains are so good at compartmentalizing. It was on the water in my field of vision, but I was looking right through it. As it got closer to lunchtime I started moving around. Not sure what snapped me into focus, but it was probably the cloud. After putting a few things in the truck, I was walking back to the house. On my way, this is what I saw. I remember thinking how the cloud ran on for ever and almost looked alive. In that moment, the boat finally registered! I stopped walking and was just staring. After a minute it occurred to me, “I should get a camera!”
