Quintessential Spring in California
Upper Bidwell Park, Chico, CA
This was a classic, never made it to where I was going morning! (And that’s just fine.)
I was in a really good place this morning. My plan was to get a walk in and scout 2 potential locations for future images. On my way into Bear Hole this field of flowers presented itself. Being April, in a year with almost no rain, I did not expect to see this. It took me a few seconds to process what I was seeing and it’s potential. Once it sunk in, all I could think of was how fast can I park my truck!
Before I even stopped the vehicle, I was almost 100% sure there was going to be a world class image out of this. Over the next 30-40 minutes I walked this area looking for just the right spot. I kept coming back to this view. Perfection is an overused word, but for me, in this image, it is exactly what I wanted! Wildflowers, Oak trees, green grass just giving way to brown, hills with rock intermixed, and a sky full of big clouds.
As a person who grew up in California and has spent a lifetime enjoying nature here, I can really appreciate this moment. With Winter and Spring being a little weird in 2022, didn't think I was going to get a flower shot this year. What a special treat!
