While man made fireworks are something you can count on for this holiday, nature is fickle. For that reason, a show in the sky like this is a bonus. The West Shore of Lake Almanor is typically quiet and less crowded than other California lakes. The weekend of the 4th, however, typically transforms even this area into a congested, loud party.
This year there were fewer boats and people in general. When clouds were still in the sky and color started to show up as the day came to an end, the scene had potential. The orange which dominates this image is only a color, but when you are there, it can be all-encompassing. With the reflection on the water, it is everywhere. Almost like you are not just seeing but feeling it as well!
I really enjoy getting a subject just right in wide shots like this. It can offer some perspective and tell a story. The paddle boarder in this shot helps create a quintessential summer evening on the lake.
