Seeing this image, I feel like I am in a far-off place. On this particular day, the conditions seemed favorable for pictures at this location. The question was just when. I watched the clouds for a while and tried out several different depths. At some point there was a small section of no clouds, and it started moving across the sky. I was able to time that clear spot right behind the tree so it would pop. There was also a bright section of clouds I could move the backpacker into. This way they would be easily visible as well. To finish it off, the sun was breaking through just enough to give me some detail in the grass. There are times when you know you have something special, and this was one of them!
I like providing the story about each image. In this case, I was torn. So much about it feels like an opportunity for you to make up a narrative surrounding the scene. A lone person walking with a pack amongst the blowing long grass. An oak tree done with living, but still standing against the harsh elements. The clouds of a storm that is building, ending, or continuing. Black and white making everything feel dramatic and powerful!
Any one of the elements could be the focus of your story…
