Yosemite High Country

I don’t even know where to start with this image!  On the second day in the backcountry of Yosemite we were all really tired.  My son insisted on having dinner, not at our camp, but just a stone's throw from where this image was captured.  I didn’t want to bring everything over here, but I am humble enough to say I took the wrong position on this.

It was one of the most beautiful views I have ever seen while having dinner. We pan fried New York Steaks. To finish it off, we crisped cubed potatoes and boiled broccoli. All while sitting in our camp chairs taking it in. This dinner would have been good at home. In this location, after a long day of hiking, we unanimously agreed it was the best meal we’ve ever had!

I cooked most of it, so while the kids cleaned up, I moved to this position.  It was incredible to lay on the rocks next to my tripod while the sunset developed.  The sound of the river drowned out all other noises.  As the sun got lower and lower, the shadows created made the scene even more dramatic.

The 15-30 minutes surrounding this sunset were simply awesome.  I remember feeling so lucky while experiencing it. 

As we walked back to camp I was wondering if it would be possible to represent that event in a single final print. Minus the thundering Tuolumne River and chill on my face, this feels like it! Recreating it in this image has brought me nearly as much joy as the event itself!
