Exploring Local Art: Chico Open Studios Art Tours

This weekend, we had the pleasure of diving into Chico's vibrant art scene during the Chico Open Studios Art Tours. The event is always a highlight of the fall, offering a chance to explore local artists’ studios and get a rare behind-the-scenes look at their creative process. We found it rewarding this weekend to get out and meet artists on the Tour, while we prepare to open our own doors to the public next weekend. It was an inspiring journey, and we visited some truly memorable stops.

Flake Ceramics Studio: Quality and Natural Pottery

At Flake Ceramics Studio, we were captivated by the earthy tones and organic forms that characterize their pottery. Each piece had a unique feel, blending functionality with a minimalist, natural aesthetic. We left with a renewed appreciation for ceramics, awe at he and his wife’s property and cactus garden, and perhaps a new piece to take home!

Geralyn Sheridan Designs: Bold and Colorful Textiles and Brenda Schlegel Hand Crafted Jewelry: Unique, Handmade Jewelry

Next, we explored Geralyn Sheridan Designs, where bold, vibrant textiles took center stage. Her wearable art transforms everyday fashion into a canvas of colors and textures. It was a joy to speak with her about her design process and the inspiration behind her work. She shared her passion for using sustainable materials, which adds an extra layer of meaning to each piece. The energy in her studio was infectious, and we left feeling inspired not just by her creations but also by her dedication to her craft. If you’re looking for unique, handmade jewelry that makes a statement, Geralyn Sheridan’s designs are definitely a must-see!

Sharing the space on Mangrove with Gerilyn was one of our favorites Brenda Schlegel Hand Crafted Jewelry. Her detailed, handcrafted pieces were simply breathtaking. The way she incorporates natural stones and metals into her designs makes each piece feel like a wearable work of art. It was hard not to be tempted by her unique creations!

Kristen DeMartini Carlos Gallery: Nature in Bold Colors

The tour also led us to Kristen DeMartini Carlos’ Gallery, where her stunning landscapes and abstract work really spoke to our love of nature. Her bold use of color and dynamic brushwork brought natural scenes of both home and travel to life in a new way. It was easy to lose ourselves in her vivid interpretations of the natural world.

Meghan Lacombe: Creative Mixed Media Art

Finally, we wrapped up our tour with a visit to Meghan Lacombe’s studio. Her contemporary and experimental approach to mixed media was both refreshing and bold. Her pieces pushed the boundaries of traditional art forms, making the studio a space of fun, whimsical fancy that was a joy to browse and brainstorm.

OSAT at Mark Thau Photography October 19 and 20

As we wrapped up our weekend of exploring, we couldn't help but reflect on how fun it was to speak with each artist in their personal workspace. Hearing them talk about their inspiration, techniques, and the stories behind their work added a whole new level of appreciation for the pieces we saw. It’s one thing to view art in a gallery, but engaging directly with the creators gives you a glimpse into the passion and care that go into every piece. Their enthusiasm is contagious, making the Chico Open Studios Art Tours more than just an exhibition—it's an experience.

We were so inspired by our visits this weekend that we’re thrilled to invite you to come visit our studio next weekend! Whether you’re a fellow art lover or just curious, we’d love to show you what we’ve been working on and share our creative process with you. There’s nothing quite like the magic of meeting the artists behind the work, and we’d be honored to share that with you.

So if you’re looking for something fun to do, make sure to stop by and say hello during the second weekend of the Chico Open Studios Art Tours! You never know what inspiration you might find—or even take home with you. We can’t wait to meet you!
